Bhante was born in Cambodia under the French Colony. He was married and had a daughter. He rose to a Supreme Court Judge in the French System. In his early 30s when he left to become a monk. While this was a common practice, men did not remain monks, but return to secular life. Bhante had a calling. He did missionary work in the Cambodian Jungles. Later he founded the Asoka Mission in India and was frequently visited Gandhi. JG Bennett founder of the Gurdjieff School at Claymont met Bhante in the 1960s and invited him to teach at his Fourth Way School in England.
